The Avenue
West Lothian beech trees - WL502
Snow had fallen overnight followed by a very deep frost which had coated many trees with feathery hoar ice as well as soft powdery snow. As I drove through this avenue the trees suddenly dropped a curtain of snow that was backlit beautifully by the sun streaking through the branches. I stopped as soon as I could at the road-end of a track to a farmhouse and walked back along the verge, stumbling into holes hidden by the snow.
This road is quite busy so I set up in position and waited for two things - a clear road and a puff of wind to shake down some more snow. It took a while, and I was wishing I’d taken the time to change out of my porous trainers. Eventually I caught a moment that satisfied my hope to match what I’d witnessed earlier.
Nikon D850 and a 70-200mm lens.
