The Ross Fountain & St Cuthbert’s Kirk - ED529

The fountain sits in West Princes St Gardens beneath Edinburgh Castle. It froze overnight in sub-zero temperatures forming fantastic shapes and patterns around the chilled out ladies, and I wanted to try and get this nymph’s finger lined up with the dome on St Cuthbert’s Kirk

When the Ross Fountain was installed in 1872 the minister and his parishioners at St Cuthbert’s were scandalised at the proximity of such licentiousness.

Thankfully their protests fell on deaf ears and the fountain is now a favourite vantage point in Princes St Gardens to capture the castle on its brooding north facing crag. It had a £1.9 million restoration in 2018 which saw it repainted in new colours.

Nikon D850 and a 70-200mm lens.
