The Ross Fountain & Edinburgh Castle - ED528
The fountain sits in West Princes St Gardens beneath the castle. It froze overnight in sub-zero temperatures forming fantastic shapes and patterns around the chilled out ladies.
I spent a good hour capturing different aspects and detail shots, and then the sun came out from behind the clouds and I had to do them all over again. I swore a wee bit, but in a happy way.
When the Ross Fountain was installed in 1872 the minister and his parishioners at nearby St Cuthbert’s Kirk were scandalised at the proximity of such licentiousness.
Thankfully their protests fell on deaf ears and the fountain is now a favourite vantage point in Princes St Gardens to capture the castle on its brooding north facing crag. It had a £1.9 million restoration in 2018 which saw it repainted in new colours.
Nikon D850 and a 24-70mm lens.
